Discussion thread for Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge.

Constructed in 1901, Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge spans Settendown Creek and is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Georgia. The original grist mill at the site was built around 1820 by Cherokee Chief George Welch. Following the Cherokee Removal in 1838, Welch lost his land, and the mill changed ownership several times before being abandoned in 1947 and burned in 1959. The current bridge was built to replace the original, which was washed away in a flood in 1899.
